Under direct supervision assists the professional nurse in providing direct and indirect patient care. Education: HS Diploma or equivalent. Licensure: Heart Saver (CPR Certification), CNA, Current registration with State of Maryland Board of Nursing Examiners of Nurses as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Experience: At least 6 months experience in direct patient care preferred. Skills: Ability to read and write English to provide basic patient care, understand and communicate detailed instructions, perform simple calculations for weights, vital signs, and routine charting. Interpersonal skills to interact courteously with patients, visitors, physicians, and staff. Competent to safely handle medications. Patient & Workplace Safety knowledge. Patient Population competency to meet age-specific needs. Principal Duties: Provide care, comfort, and safety of assigned patients under nurse supervision; use infection prevention techniques; perform and record delegated nursing care; observe and report patient condition changes; use resources conscientiously; assist with activities of daily living; assist in patient mobility and turning; transfer/transport medications; distribute patient trays and nourishments; respond promptly to patient call lights and relay information.
