Geisinger is proud to offer a Patient Care Technician a $18.94 minimum hiring rate with increased rates for experienced individuals and up to $3 shift differentials for evening, nights, and weekend shifts! Also offering up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse! The ACE Nursing Model of Care will utilize more Patient Care Technician staff to take responsibility for and perform the duties that do not require a nursing license, freeing the licensed nurse to perform the advanced skills that align with nursing education and training. Primary duties include facilitation of ADLs: hygiene, toileting, mobility, meals; vital signs; point of care testing; turning & repositioning; daily weights; equipment checks & exchanges. Additional training provided on advanced patient care skills including advanced dressing care, suctioning, removal of Foley Catheter, peripheral IV, venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens. May perform a wide variety of advanced patient care duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and maintains the patient care and unit environment consistent with policies, procedures, and practices. Provides enhanced patient care under the direction of the licensed nurse, including advanced dressing care, suctioning, removal of Foley Catheter and peripheral IV. May perform venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens. Documents in the appropriate sections to create a complete and accurate medical record. Identifies, observes, and documents the physical needs of the patient and reports changes in patient condition. Provides or assists patients with activities of daily living and fulfills designated responsibilities for ongoing continuum of care. Provides one to one patient safety watch as assigned. Performs point of care patient testing and instrument maintenance and quality control. Assists in problem solving and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Serves as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students. Performs clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths. Coordinates transportation of patients to tests. Communicates with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets. Assists with transporting non-controlled medications and blood products. Participates in regulatory readiness as needed. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. Schedule: Full-Time, Nights (7pm-7:30am shifts). No experience needed. Comprehensive on the job training provided. Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required. Certification: Basic Life Support Certification within 6 months required. Skills: Communication, Computer Literacy, Mathematics.
