The Pharmacy Technician, under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, assists in providing pharmaceutical care to the patient by preparing, storing, ordering, billing, labeling, and distributing IV and other medications in a safe, accurate and timely manner in accordance with St. Charles Health System policies and procedures, and state and federal law. Pharmacy Technicians also perform other technical and clerical duties as necessary for the daily operation of the Pharmacy department. This position does not directly manage any other caregivers. Essential functions include maintaining stock supplies, preparing IV or other medications using aseptic technique, preparing chemotherapy and handling blood products safely, maintaining and cleaning equipment, preparing and delivering medication supplies, following policies for automated dispensing cabinets, placing daily orders for medications and supplies, verifying inventory, stocking shelves, handling controlled substances, billing and crediting medication charges, recommending policy changes, supporting organizational vision and values, supporting Lean principles, maintaining a safe environment, conducting activities professionally and confidentially, complying with laws and policies, delivering customer service and patient care, and performing additional duties as assigned. Education required is a high school diploma or GED. Licensure required is a Pharmacy Technician license through the Oregon Board of Pharmacy. Preferred certification includes Certified Pharmacy Technician license (CPhT) through the Oregon Board of Pharmacy and national certification through PTCB or NHA. Preferred experience includes six months or more hospital pharmacy experience or related field experience with medications, sterile technique, and computer skills. Physical requirements and PPE use are specified. The position is full-time with variable shifts including every other weekend and holidays.
